Deux grands instruments de d\u00e9tection ont \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9velopp\u00e9s&nbsp;: <strong>LIGO<\/strong> (Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory) aux \u00c9tats-Unis, et <strong>Virgo<\/strong> en Europe (en Italie pr\u00e8s de Pise). En France, deux  physiciens ont re\u00e7u le 27&nbsp;septembre 2017 la m\u00e9daille d\u2019or du CNRS pour leurs contributions majeures \u00e0 la d\u00e9tection des ondes gravitationnelles&nbsp;: Alain Brillet et Thibault Damour (voir le <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.cnrs.fr\/presse\/communique\/5213.htm\">communiqu\u00e9 du CNRS<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En ao\u00fbt 2017, <strong>les deux instruments LIGO et Virgo ont observ\u00e9 simultan\u00e9ment une onde gravitationnelle<\/strong>&nbsp;: un \u00e9v\u00e9nement majeur. Disposer de plusieurs instruments r\u00e9partis sur le globe est un atout pour conforter et affiner les observations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Einstein avait (encore) raison&nbsp;!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>L\u2019existence d\u2019ondes gravitationnelles avait \u00e9t\u00e9 annonc\u00e9e par Albert Einstein il y a plus d\u2019un si\u00e8cle dans le cadre de ses travaux sur la relativit\u00e9 g\u00e9n\u00e9rale. Les d\u00e9tecteurs d\u2019ondes gravitationnelles sont des <strong>observatoires d\u2019un type nouveau<\/strong> qui captent d\u2019infimes vibrations de l\u2019espace par interf\u00e9rom\u00e9trie laser (mesures ultra pr\u00e9cises de longueurs en utilisant les propri\u00e9t\u00e9s de la lumi\u00e8re). Ils vont offrir des possibilit\u00e9s d\u2019observation de certains ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes qui \u00e9chappent totalement aux observatoires traditionnels parce qu\u2019ils ne produisent ni lumi\u00e8re ni ondes radios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Gravit\u00e9&nbsp;? Elle nous maintient les pieds sur la Terre et joue un r\u00f4le clef dans la formation et l\u2019\u00e9volution des \u00e9toiles et des grandes structures de l\u2019Univers. Selon la th\u00e9orie de la relativit\u00e9 g\u00e9n\u00e9rale introduite par Albert Einstein, la gravit\u00e9 peut \u00eatre vue comme une <strong>d\u00e9formation de l\u2019espace<\/strong> autour d\u2019un objet massif. Une d\u00e9formation \u00e0 l\u2019origine des ondes gravitationnelles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stelvision.com\/astro\/trous-noirs-et-astres-exotiques\/\">Les trous noirs<\/a><\/strong> sont des objets fascinants dont l\u2019appellation elle-m\u00eame r\u00e9sonne comme un myst\u00e8re. Mais ce sont des astres bien concrets&nbsp;! Extr\u00eamement denses et n&rsquo;\u00e9mettant aucune lumi\u00e8re.
