Le math\u00e9maticien et g\u00e9om\u00e8tre italien s&#8217;empare du principe de l&rsquo;invention et d\u00e9cide de l&rsquo;am\u00e9liorer gr\u00e2ce aux principes \u00e9l\u00e9mentaires de l&rsquo;optique. Il obtient alors un instrument qui grossit de mani\u00e8re lin\u00e9aire jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 trente fois, et envisage de l&rsquo;utiliser pour observer&#8230; les corps c\u00e9lestes. Plusieurs de ces lunettes astronomiques sont d&rsquo;ailleurs expos\u00e9es au Mus\u00e9e Galil\u00e9e \u00e0 Florence, en Italie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En mars 1610, Galil\u00e9e publie le petit livre \u00e9crit en latin <em>Sidereus Nuncius<\/em> (<em>Le messager des \u00e9toiles<\/em> ou <em>Le messager c\u00e9leste<\/em>), dans lequel il d\u00e9crit ses premi\u00e8res observations r\u00e9alis\u00e9es \u00e0 la lunette pendant l\u2019hiver 1609-1610. \u00c0 destination de tous les publics cultiv\u00e9s, les 500 exemplaires du premier tirage sont \u00e9puis\u00e9s d\u00e8s leur parution. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">D\u00e9couverte des lunes de Jupiter <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>En quelques semaines, Galil\u00e9e d\u00e9couvre la nature de la Voie lact\u00e9e, d\u00e9nombre les \u00e9toiles de la constellation d&rsquo;Orion et constate que certaines \u00e9toiles visibles \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u0153il nu sont en fait des amas d&rsquo;\u00e9toiles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le 7&nbsp;janvier&nbsp;1610, l&rsquo;astronome italien r\u00e9alise sans doute l&rsquo;une de ses d\u00e9couvertes les plus fondamentales. Io, Europe, Ganym\u00e8de et Callisto sont finalement nomm\u00e9s par l&rsquo;astronome allemand Simon Marius, qui revendique, en concurrence avec Galil\u00e9e, leur d\u00e9couverte. En effet, au d\u00e9but du XVII<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle, les moyens techniques ne permettaient pas encore de conna\u00eetre l&rsquo;altitude des montagnes terrestres avec pr\u00e9cision. L\u00e0 encore, il r\u00e9alise une des plus grandes d\u00e9couvertes de son temps&nbsp;: les anneaux de Saturne. Il observe un anneau autour de la plan\u00e8te pour la premi\u00e8re fois le&nbsp;25 juillet&nbsp;1610 dans sa lunette avec un grossissement de 30 fois, mais n&rsquo;a pas encore la possibilit\u00e9 d&rsquo;en d\u00e9finir la nature. Lisez notre article <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stelvision.com\/astro\/observer-saturne\/\">Observer Saturne la magnifique<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Le Soleil, V\u00e9nus et Neptune<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Apr\u00e8s avoir mis en \u00e9vidence les anneaux de Saturne, Galil\u00e9e invente une astuce pour observer le Soleil \u00e0 la lunette. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 un ing\u00e9nieux syst\u00e8me de r\u00e9troprojection sur \u00e9cran &#8211;&nbsp;pour \u00e9viter bien entendu de s&rsquo;ab\u00eemer les yeux \u00e0 regarder notre \u00e9toile directement&nbsp;&#8211; il d\u00e9couvre les <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stelvision.com\/astro\/le-soleil-notre-bonne-etoile\/\">taches solaires<\/a>. Trois autres observateurs, dont les astronomes allemands Johannes&nbsp;Fabricius et Christoph&nbsp;Scheiner, font la m\u00eame d\u00e9couverte \u00e9galement en 1611.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Au d\u00e9part, certains observateurs pensent que ces taches sont des plan\u00e8tes inconnues, encore plus proches du Soleil que <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stelvision.com\/astro\/mercure-petite-planete-grandes-decouvertes\/\">Mercure<\/a>. Galil\u00e9e penche d&rsquo;abord pour des \u00ab\u00a0nuages\u00a0\u00bb, mais comprend rapidement que les taches sont \u00ab\u00a0dans\u00a0\u00bb la surface du Soleil. Il s&rsquo;aper\u00e7oit que la plan\u00e8te se pr\u00e9sente alternativement en forme de croissant, de quartier ou de disque. Galil\u00e9e montre ainsi que V\u00e9nus pr\u00e9sente des phases, comme la Lune. Cette d\u00e9couverte renforce la <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stelvision.com\/astro\/histoire-de-lastronomie-le-soleil-au-centre-de-lunivers\/\">th\u00e9orie de l&rsquo;h\u00e9liocentrisme<\/a> car, telles qu&rsquo;on les observe depuis la Terre, les phases de V\u00e9nus apparaissent incompatibles avec un syst\u00e8me o\u00f9 V\u00e9nus et le Soleil tourneraient autour de la Terre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Enfin, c&rsquo;est \u00e0 l&rsquo;astronome italien que l&rsquo;on attribue la pr\u00e9-d\u00e9couverte de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stelvision.com\/astro\/neptune-une-planete-mysterieuse\/\">Neptune<\/a>. Le 28&nbsp;d\u00e9cembre&nbsp;1612, Galil\u00e9e est le premier humain \u00e0 observer cette plan\u00e8te avec sa lunette, alors visible en conjonction avec Jupiter. Le consensus parle de \u00ab\u00a0pr\u00e9-d\u00e9couverte\u00a0\u00bb, car Galil\u00e9e aurait bien rep\u00e9r\u00e9 un l\u00e9ger d\u00e9placement de Neptune en l&rsquo;espace d&rsquo;un mois, mais n&rsquo;aurait pas fait explicitement le rapprochement avec le mouvement d&rsquo;une plan\u00e8te.
