This white dwarf star is cloaked in thick layers of dust, which make it appear larger. &lt;br \/&gt;\n&lt;br \/&gt;\nThe brighter star in both images hasn\u2019t yet shed its layers. It closely orbits the dimmer white dwarf, helping to distribute what it\u2019s ejected.&lt;br \/&gt;\n&lt;br \/&gt;\nOver thousands of years and before it became a white dwarf, the star periodically ejected mass \u2013 the visible shells of material. As if on repeat, it contracted, heated up \u2013 and then, unable to push out more material, pulsated. Stellar material was sent in all directions \u2013 like a rotating sprinkler \u2013 and provided the ingredients for this asymmetrical landscape.&lt;br \/&gt;\n&lt;br \/&gt;\nToday, the white dwarf is heating up the gas in the inner regions \u2013 which appear blue at left and red at right. Both stars are lighting up the outer regions, shown in orange and blue, respectively.&lt;br \/&gt;\n&lt;br \/&gt;\nThe images look very different because NIRCam and MIRI collect different wavelengths of light. NIRCam observes near-infrared light, which is closer to the visible wavelengths our eyes detect. MIRI goes farther into the infrared, picking up mid-infrared wavelengths. C\u2019est l\u2019une des pouponni\u00e8res d\u2019\u00e9toiles massives les plus proches de la Terre. <\/strong><small>Cr\u00e9dit&nbsp;: Nasa\/Esa\/CSA\/STScI<\/small><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Toutefois, l\u2019image la plus impressionnante r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9e par la Nasa est peut-\u00eatre celle de l\u2019amas de galaxie SMACS&nbsp;0723, situ\u00e9 \u00e0 un peu plus de 5&nbsp;milliards d&rsquo;ann\u00e9es-lumi\u00e8re de la Terre. <em>\u201cLe JWST a pos\u00e9 pendant 12&nbsp;heures d\u2019affil\u00e9e pour obtenir cette image, quand le meilleur clich\u00e9 d\u2019Hubble du m\u00eame objet avait n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 plus d\u2019une semaine de pose,<\/em> d\u00e9taille Alain Blanchard.<em> L\u2019image est vraiment spectaculaire car on voit plusieurs dizaines de galaxies l\u00e0 o\u00f9 avec le HST on n\u2019en voyait qu\u2019une seule. Avec le JWST, on pourrait esp\u00e9rer remonter \u00e0 100\u00a0millions d\u2019ann\u00e9es\u201d<\/em>, poursuit Alain Blanchard.
