C\u2019est assez rare pour \u00eatre mentionn\u00e9&nbsp;! Et <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stelvision.com\/astro\/comprendre-les-cometes\/\">les com\u00e8tes<\/a> ont ceci d\u2019amusant que, souvent, il s\u2019agit de grandes voyageuses&nbsp;: provenant des confins du Syst\u00e8me solaire, elles s\u2019approchent du Soleil et de la Terre en un p\u00e9riple qui peut durer des milliers d\u2019ann\u00e9es. Elles repartent ensuite pour de longs si\u00e8cles\u2026 ou pour toujours. Ainsi, en contemplant leur passage, nous pouvons r\u00eaver aux grands espaces cosmiques\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Au commencement, la d\u00e9couverte<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Alors que beaucoup de com\u00e8tes sont connues depuis longtemps et reviennent nous voir p\u00e9riodiquement (la com\u00e8te de Halley tous les 76 ans, la com\u00e8te Encke tous les 3 ans\u2026), d&rsquo;autres sont d\u00e9couvertes r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement. V\u00e9ritables cadeaux du ciel pour les amateurs, ces \u00ab&nbsp;com\u00e8tes surprises&nbsp;\u00bb offrent parfois un beau spectacle lorsqu\u2019elles s\u2019approchent assez pr\u00e8s du Soleil et de la Terre. Ce fut le cas de la c\u00e9l\u00e8bre Hale-Bopp qui a fortement marqu\u00e9 les esprits en 1997, ou, derni\u00e8rement, de la com\u00e8te NEOWISE en 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aujourd\u2019hui, c\u2019est la com\u00e8te ZTF \u2013&nbsp;de son vrai nom C\/2022&nbsp;E3&nbsp;(ZTF)&nbsp;\u2013 qui fait parler d\u2019elle. Elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9couverte en mars&nbsp;2022 par un programme de d\u00e9tection Zwicky Transcient Facility utilisant l\u2019un des t\u00e9lescopes de l&rsquo;observatoire du Mont Palomar en Californie. Quelques temps apr\u00e8s sa d\u00e9couverte, les astronomes \u00e9taient d\u00e9j\u00e0 en mesure d\u2019annoncer que cette com\u00e8te s\u2019\u00e9tait d\u00e9j\u00e0 approch\u00e9e il y a 50&nbsp;000&nbsp;ans. Comment ont-ils fait&nbsp;? Parmi ces param\u00e8tres, on trouve notamment&nbsp;:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>l\u2019excentricit\u00e9&nbsp;(e);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>le demi-grand axe&nbsp;(a) ;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>la p\u00e9riode&nbsp;(T).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Dans le cas d\u2019une ellipse, l\u2019<em>excentricit\u00e9<\/em> indique une forme plus ou moins \u00ab&nbsp;aplatie&nbsp;\u00bb&nbsp;; le <em>demi-grand axe<\/em> repr\u00e9sente la plus grande dimension de l\u2019ellipse (mesur\u00e9e \u00e0 partir de son centre)&nbsp;; la <em>p\u00e9riode <\/em>d\u00e9signe la dur\u00e9e de r\u00e9volution autour du Soleil (par exemple 76&nbsp;ans pour la com\u00e8te de Halley).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Comment a-t-on pu d\u00e9terminer la trajectoire de la com\u00e8te&nbsp;ZTF&nbsp;?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Les scientifiques ont r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 \u00e9tablir que la com\u00e8te a eu, dans le pass\u00e9, une trajectoire elliptique avec une p\u00e9riode de 50&nbsp;000&nbsp;ans environ\u2026 sans avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 l\u00e0 il y a 50&nbsp;000 ans bien s\u00fbr&nbsp;! Cela, gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la troisi\u00e8me loi de Kepler&nbsp;: il suffit de conna\u00eetre le demi-grand axe pour en d\u00e9duire la p\u00e9riode, selon la formule&nbsp;: a<sup>3<\/sup>\/T<sup>2<\/sup>=k (k est une constante, identique pour tous les corps du Syst\u00e8me solaire).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mais alors, comment ont-ils fait pour d\u00e9terminer le demi-grand axe&nbsp;? Mais, surprise, les observations les plus r\u00e9centes ont mis en \u00e9vidence que la trajectoire initialement \u00e9tablie avait \u00e9t\u00e9 perturb\u00e9e sous l\u2019action de diverses influences autres que celle du Soleil. En effet, il faut aussi compter avec l\u2019attraction des plan\u00e8tes et les gaz \u00e9ject\u00e9s par la com\u00e8te. Le param\u00e8tre a (demi-grand axe) estim\u00e9 par les mod\u00e8les de calcul est tout simplement devenu n\u00e9gatif\u2026 ce qui n\u2019a aucun sens pour une ellipse et signifie que la trajectoire est devenue une hyperbole. La com\u00e8te va donc probablement repartir \u00e0 tout jamais.
