La sonde va en particulier \u00e9tudier trois des quatre lunes de Jupiter. La sonde <em>JUpiter ICy moons Explorer<\/em> a pour but d\u2019\u00e9tudier l\u2019environnement jovien et notamment trois des quatre lunes de Jupiter&nbsp;: Europe, Ganym\u00e8de et Callisto. En&nbsp;2031, elle se placera en orbite autour de la g\u00e9ante gazeuse, avant d\u2019effectuer des survols rapproch\u00e9s d\u2019Europe et de Callisto, puis de se placer en orbite autour de Ganym\u00e8de.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Depuis&nbsp;2016, c\u2019est la mission Juno de l\u2019Agence spatiale am\u00e9ricaine (Nasa) en orbite autour de Jupiter qui s\u2019att\u00e8le \u00e0 cette t\u00e2che, mais sans \u00eatre aussi bien \u00e9quip\u00e9e pour \u00e9tudier les lunes galil\u00e9ennes que JUICE. Pour rappel, les lunes galil\u00e9ennes sont les quatre plus grands satellites naturels de Jupiter. Ils sont, avec la g\u00e9ante gazeuse, une des <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stelvision.com\/astro\/observer-jupiter\/\">cibles favorites des astronomes amateurs<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\t\t\t<div style=\"color: grey; font-size: 0.8em; text-align: center;\">La suite apr\u00e8s cette annonce<\/div>\t\t\t<div class=\"boxFocus\" style=\"padding-bottom: 8px; margin-bottom: 12px; border-radius: 0; border: 1px solid #ddd;\">\t\t\t\t<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.stelvision.com\/astro\/boutique\/le-ciel-au-telescope\/?ref=middle\">\r\n\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stelvision.com\/astro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Ciel-au-telescope-1200x900-1.webp\" alt=\"visuel publicitaire livre le Ciel au t\u00e9lescope\" class=\"img-responsive\">\r\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\r\n\t\t\t\t<p style=\"text-align: center; margin-bottom: 0em; margin-top: 0.25em;\"><strong><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.stelvision.com\/astro\/boutique\/le-ciel-au-telescope\/?ref=middle\">Le Ciel au t\u00e9lescope, le guide indispensable pour r\u00e9ussir vos observations<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\r\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Juno est adapt\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tude de la magn\u00e9tosph\u00e8re, des aurores et de l\u2019atmosph\u00e8re de Jupiter. Elle ne poss\u00e8de pas de capacit\u00e9 d\u2019imagerie et de spectrom\u00e9trie suffisante pour s\u2019int\u00e9resser finement aux surfaces et aux compositions des lunes comme peut le faire JUICE. Celle-ci poss\u00e8de en particulier un instrument r\u00e9volutionnaire que ne poss\u00e8de pas Juno et dont n\u2019\u00e9tait pas non plus pourvue la mission Galileo&nbsp;: le radar RIME, qui sera capable de sonder \u00e0 des profondeurs de quelques centaines de m\u00e8tres, voire de kilom\u00e8tres, les couches superficielles des lunes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>JUICE se d\u00e9marque par ses objectifs scientifiques particuli\u00e8rement vari\u00e9s et ambitieux. <em>\u201cLes dix instruments de la mission ont \u00e9t\u00e9 con\u00e7us pour fonctionner ensemble afin de nous donner une vision globale de l\u2019environnement jovien<\/em>, appuie Denis Grodent, chercheur en plan\u00e9tologie et directeur du Laboratoire de Physique Atmosph\u00e9rique et Plan\u00e9taire (LPAP) de l\u2019universit\u00e9 de Li\u00e8ge en Belgique. <em>Avec la g\u00e9ante gazeuse et ses quatre principaux satellites naturels, c\u2019est \u00e0 un \u2018mini syst\u00e8me plan\u00e9taire\u2019 auquel nous avons acc\u00e8s.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fameuse habitabilit\u00e9<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Plus particuli\u00e8rement, JUICE doit permettre de trouver des r\u00e9ponses \u00e0 l\u2019un des plus grands fantasmes du Syst\u00e8me solaire&nbsp;: la pr\u00e9sence d\u2019eau liquide ailleurs que sur Terre. <em>\u201cD\u2019apr\u00e8s les mod\u00e8les et calculs, nous ne serions pas surpris de v\u00e9rifier la pr\u00e9sence d&rsquo;un oc\u00e9an d\u2019eau liquide sous la surface glac\u00e9e d\u2019Europe\u201d<\/em>, explique Philippe Louarn, chercheur en astrophysique et directeur de l\u2019Institut de Recherche en Astrophysique et Plan\u00e9tologie de Toulouse (IRAP). L\u2019IRAP est impliqu\u00e9 dans le d\u00e9veloppement du d\u00e9tecteur de particules et plasma PEP et du d\u00e9tecteur d\u2019ondes radio et plasma RPWI. \u201c<em>L\u2019objectif est de d\u00e9terminer le volume de cet oc\u00e9an, l\u2019\u00e9paisseur de la couche de glace sous laquelle il se trouve, et surtout, d\u2019essayer de comprendre si le fond de cet oc\u00e9an liquide est en contact direct avec le noyau rocheux de la lune. Nichols<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Cette fameuse habitabilit\u00e9, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire des conditions propices \u00e0 l\u2019apparition de la vie, est sans doute facilit\u00e9e par l\u2019existence d\u2019eau liquide et des \u00e9changes d\u2019\u00e9nergie et de mati\u00e8re avec la roche. <em>\u201cC\u2019est ce qui se produit au fond des oc\u00e9ans sur Terre et qui pourrait \u00e9galement se trouver sur Europe\u201d<\/em>, ajoute Philippe Louarn. Si oc\u00e9an il y a, celui-ci sera vraisemblablement sal\u00e9, charg\u00e9 de sels min\u00e9raux et d\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9ments chimiques en suspension (calcium, chlore, sulfates\u2026) li\u00e9s au contact avec la roche. C\u2019est notamment le magn\u00e9tom\u00e8tre J-MAG qui permettra de d\u00e9celer l\u2019oc\u00e9an en mesurant les perturbations qu\u2019il induit dans le champ magn\u00e9tique de Jupiter. De son c\u00f4t\u00e9, le radar RIME nous donnera acc\u00e8s au sous-sol d\u2019Europe afin de d\u00e9terminer les \u00e9paisseurs de la couche de glace et de l\u2019oc\u00e9an.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">La star Ganym\u00e8de<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>JUICE va survoler Europe, mais la grande star de la mission, c\u2019est Ganym\u00e8de. La sonde doit se placer en 2034 en orbite autour de cette lune &#8211;&nbsp;la plus grande des quatre, dont la taille est sup\u00e9rieure \u00e0 celle de Mercure&nbsp;&#8211; avant de s\u2019\u00e9craser \u00e0 sa surface l\u2019ann\u00e9e suivante \u00e0 la fin de la mission. Le fait de se mettre en orbite va d\u00e9cupler la quantit\u00e9 de donn\u00e9es recueillies. <em>\u201c\u00c0 la diff\u00e9rence d\u2019Europe, nous sommes moins s\u00fbrs que Ganym\u00e8de poss\u00e8de un oc\u00e9an d\u2019eau liquide<\/em>, reprend Philippe Louarn. <em>Si c\u2019est le cas, nous aurons la m\u00eame interrogation sur le contact de l\u2019eau avec la roche, m\u00eame si les mod\u00e8les laissent penser que l\u2019oc\u00e9an est plut\u00f4t sous forme de bulles de liquide g\u00e9antes emprisonn\u00e9es dans des cavit\u00e9s de glaces de diff\u00e9rentes natures\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En outre, la mission va effectuer plusieurs survols de Callisto, le satellite galil\u00e9en le plus \u00e9loign\u00e9 de Jupiter. Il n\u2019est pas du tout clair que Callisto puisse poss\u00e9der des couches liquides, m\u00eame si cela n\u2019est pas exclu. Enfin, le quatri\u00e8me satellite galil\u00e9en Io, le plus proche de Jupiter, est le si\u00e8ge d\u2019un volcanisme tr\u00e8s actif et n\u2019est donc pas candidat \u00e0 la pr\u00e9sence d\u2019eau liquide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pourquoi si diff\u00e9rentes&nbsp;?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Pour conclure, soulignons que la mission JUICE a bien d\u2019autres objectifs scientifiques, comme par exemple l\u2019\u00e9tude du lien entre les aurores et les magn\u00e9tosph\u00e8res de Jupiter et de Ganym\u00e8de (la seule des quatre lunes \u00e0 poss\u00e9der un champ magn\u00e9tique intrins\u00e8que). <em>\u201cL\u2019enjeu de la mission est vraiment la comparaison entre les trois lunes. Pourquoi sont-elles si diff\u00e9rentes&nbsp;?, <\/em>termine le directeur de l\u2019IRAP.<em> La mission est tr\u00e8s exploratoire car on conna\u00eet les satellites galil\u00e9ens de mani\u00e8re tr\u00e8s peu pouss\u00e9e. Ils ne se sont pas forc\u00e9ment form\u00e9s au m\u00eame endroit, ont pu migrer, et pourtant sont en r\u00e9sonance les uns avec les autres.
